Resumen
El presente artículo versa sobre la historia de Renovación Nacional. En particular discute con aquellas miradas que lo han pensado como un partido renovador y representante de una nueva centro-derecha liberal de cara a la “democracia de los acuerdos” durante la transición. Por el contrario, la hipótesis del trabajo sostiene que dicha agrupación fue más bien un partido instrumental de distintas corrientes de la derecha chilena. Mientras que su consenso se basó en una memoria histórica común de oposición a la Unidad Popular y el golpe militar, su clivaje estuvo marcado por distintas perspectivas sobre las herencias de la dictadura y las estrategias para abordar la transición. Dado su carácter instrumental, las diferencias entre tendencias se regulaban a partir del cuoteo como regla informal intra-partidaria, y cuando este no fue respetado, los conflictos se expresaron relaciones de poder más allá del mismo partido.

Abstract
This article deals with the recent history of Renovación Nacional. In particular, it discusses with those views that have thought of it as a renovating party and representative of a new liberal center-right facing the "democracy of agreements" during the transition. On the contrary, the hypothesis of the work maintains that said group was rather an instrumental party of different currents of the Chilean right. While their consensus was based on a common historical memory of opposition to Popular Unity and the military coup, their cleavage was marked by different perspectives on the legacies of the dictatorship and the strategies to address the transition. Given its instrumental nature, the differences between tendencies were regulated based on the cuoteo as an informal intra-party rule, and when this was not respected, the conflicts expressed power relations beyond the party itself.
