Resumen
Buscamos analizar los gobiernos catalogados dentro del “giro a la izquierda” en Chile y Brasil (Lula da Silva, Rousseff, Lagos y Bachelet) y demostrar que tal categoría se sostiene sobre un imprecisión en la definición de “izquierda”. Para tal efecto estudiaremos la historia de ambos países desde sus procesos de “doble transición”, demostrando que el carácter de su democratización y sus respectivas transformaciones neoliberales muestran la importancia de sus actuales características económicas y políticas, y en cómo afectan a la sociedad chilena y brasileña.

Abstract
This article aims to analyse the governments categorised into the "Left Turn" in Chile and Brazil (Lula da Silva, Rousseff, Lagos, and Bachelet) and to demonstrate that such category has surged from an imprecise definition of “left.” For this purpose, the history of both countries will be studied starting from their “double transition” processes to demonstrate that the character of its democratisation, and their respective neoliberal transformations, mark the importance of the current political and economic characteristics and how they affect the Chilean and Brazilian societies.
