Resumen
La democracia uruguaya ha sido caracterizada como una de las más estables de Latinoamérica aun manteniendo un sistema presidencial centenario. El objetivo de este trabajo es revisar la evolución del sistema de gobierno uruguayo para indagar en las causas de su estabilidad. La hipótesis es que el sistema presidencial uruguayo se sustenta en el mantenimiento de un consenso entre dos partidos fundado en 1918 y alterado por la aparición del frente amplio a principios de los 70. Las conclusiones señalan que el sistema presidencial uruguayo ha sufrido alteraciones en los últimos años pero su continuidad no debería ponerse en duda, sino más bien, se debería promover el reacomodo de los consensos que lo sostuvieron en los primero 90 años.

Abstract
The uruguayan democracy has been characterized as one of the most stable in Latin America maintaining still, a century-old presidential system. The objective of this work is to go through the evolution of the Uruguayan government system in order to look into the causes of its stability. The hypothesis is that the Uruguayan presidential system sustains itself in the maintenance of an agreement between the two parties established in 1918 and altered by the appearance of the Flag of Broad Front in the beginning of the 70’s. The conclusions point that the Uruguayan presidential system has undergo changes in the past years but its continuity should not be questioned, but it should promote the rearrangement of the consensus that held it for the first ninety years.
